Anneke is an intimate study of form, familiarity, and quiet admiration.
As my second bust, this work marked a moment of confidence and closeness in my sculptural practice. The subject is my niece, Anneke—someone I know not just visually, but personally. That familiarity allowed the process to unfold with ease, shaping the work into something considered rather than forced.
The bust draws from classical portrait traditions, focusing on balance, proportion, and restraint. Rather than excess detail, the emphasis is on clarity of form and presence. The polished plaster surface softens the structure, catching light gently and giving the piece a calm, reflective quality.
To me, Anneke is classically beautiful—but more than that, she was a joy to sculpt. This work is a quiet tribute: to youth without sentimentality, to form without embellishment, and to the enduring pull of sculpting someone who feels close to you.
